The client’s brief was to provide a four bedroomed traditional georgian style farmhouse. The design prepared was fully authentic in terms of detailing based on sound historical design principles and not simply a mock Georgian house designed to suit modern details/construction methods. The dwellinghouse is based on a three bay classically proportioned two-storey farmhouse which was typically devoid of excess ornamentation. These houses were commonly referred to as a gentleman’s house or ‘Glebe house’. To accommodate the brief for large external storage areas, external storage buildings were arranged in a manner to provide an enclosed courtyard which would have been typical of a half courtyard farmstead which were traditionally common in the mid-west area.
